Migrating to Exstream in the Finnish insurance industry

Pohjantähti Mutual Insurance Company is the sixth largest non-life insurance company in Finland. Part of their digitalization roadmap has been an upgrade from StreamServe 5.6.2 to Exstream 16.6.2, a project that was implemented together with Pohjantähti’s IT partner Profit Software.

The upgrade to Exstream was a must for a couple of reasons; the first being version support expiration for StreamServe 5.6.2, a business-critical system for a non-life insurance company that has multiple different document types. The second driver was the European accessibility act that guarantees equal access to digital services for people with disabilities and elderly people. The directive comes into force gradually and the next requirements take place in June 2021.

For the time being, Pohjantähti utilizes Exstream’s basic features, but support for the new functionalities exists. The latest release includes features such as extensive webtools or creating interactive forms for collecting data.

– At this point we utilize Exstream limitedly but in the future, we definitely see use cases where we could both gain savings and improve user experience by utilizing features such as personalized multichannel communications and interactive editing, says Jukka Grönroos, IT Development Director at Pohjantähti.

– The project proceeded iteratively. In the first phase Exstream 16.6.2 test environment was installed and the migration from StreamServe 5.6.2 started. After the migration some configurations needed to be done in the projects. We also faced some challenges, like removal of a critical StreamIN agent that was replaced with another solution. Now we’re in a situation where the first documents are in production, says Heikki Jaakkola, Senior IT Consultant at Profit Software.
